Family, and more family

Here is a better picture of cousin Charlie's little face. Hard to believe that 7+ weeks ago, Leah was even a touch smaller than Charlie is!!

It is hard to read, but the bib says "Are these people really my relatives?" Since it was a gift from Aunt Carol, and our family really is huge and together often, we thought it was appropriate to try this on for size this week.

Leah meets Aunt Lori, who is in town all the way from Oregon.

Leah and cousin Jessica have met before, it has just taken a while for Jessica to get her hands on the baby!

Peaks and Valleys

Our planned trip to Lake Oconee had to be cancelled last week, as our family experienced a true tragedy. Leah's Uncle Eric passed away quite unexpectedly, leaving the entire family devastated. Thanks to all of our friends and extended family who have offered support during this difficult time. One of the saddest moments for me was the realization that I don't even have a picture of Leah with her Uncle Eric. He loved to look at her, but was still a bit too intimidated by her tiny size to hold her for a photo opp. Part of why I share this with you is to give some context for why I may be turning a bit obsessive about documenting all the important people that Leah meets from here on out.

While we are all still reeling from the loss of Eric, we are also sharing the joy of Uncle Michael, Aunt Kim, and cousin Max as they welcome Leah's newest first cousin today. In fact, New Baby Dinerman is so new, that at the time I am writing this he does not yet have a name! Here you can get a glimpse of the top of his noggin as his proud Daddy steals a moment with him.

Lucky Leah got an impromptu visit from Veevee this week. They hadn't seen eachother in 3 weeks, and Veevee was very impressed with Leah's growth.

Here is Leah lounging after a good meal. Ahh, to be a baby again...Here are Shannon, Leah, & Jack demonstrating the type of balancing act that we do in our house every day. We hope to see each of you very soon, and if we haven't said it lately : "We love you". - J, A, & L

Week 6 in review

This week, Leah began breaking in her big girl stroller. As you can see, she has plenty of room to grow in this one!

Following are some pictures of Leah awake, and enjoying the peacock toy on her carrier. She has spent much more time awake this week, and engaged in batting at toys on her play gym. She also is fascinated by her hands, and they can hold her interest for quite some time.

Leah had a packed social calendar this week. Wednesday night, she went to Maggiano's for her first dinner party courtesy of Cousin Jonathan. Thursday, she had lunch at Pricci with Grandma Judy and then made her first visit to United Way. Unfortunately, Mommy was so busy visiting with her UW friends, that she forgot to take any pictures of the occassion! Friday, Leah hung out at Taqueria del Sol with Kimberly & Carol. The biggest excitement came Saturday, when Leah's Auntie Shannon arrived for a visit from Vermont! Here you can see Leah and Shannon getting acquainted over a bottle.

Up this coming week: Leah's first visit to Lake Oconee. Talk to y'all soon! - J

Lady who lunches (and breakfasts...)

So, we have been slacking off a bit with the picture taking this week. Vivi has put in a request for photos of Leah sitting up & awake. If we can ever create that situation, AND have someone around to take a picture of it, we'll get that done. In the mean time, Leah had another exciting lunch date on Thursday. Here she is with her friend (and fellow United Way baby) Samuel Galbraith. It has been suggested that Leah is already dating older men - Sam was born 4 days before she was! Both Leah & Samuel slept well through a lunch at Fellini's. Hopefully next time we can get a picture of them together when eyes are open.

Leah & Daddy also had their fist solo outing on Sunday morning. They met Uncle Eric & cousin Sophie at Goldberg's for breakfast (allowing Mommy to sleep late, get a pedicure and run in to Target!). Not only did Leah visit with her uncle & cousin, but she also ran into cousins Kevin, Eve, Caroline, Simon, Annie & Janine AND Daddy Erwin. How would Goldberg's stay in business without this family?!?!? - J

An important cultural right of passage...

We present to you an important milestone for all Jewish Atlantan babies: Leah's first trip to Goldberg's. We had lunch there today with Daddy Erwin & Bubbe. While she isn't quite ready to try the corned beef, Leah definitely enjoyed the ambiance (and Bubbe enjoyed showing her off!).

Leah's Lair

For months, people have been asking "Is the nursery ready?" or "What does the nursery look like?". Our answers have been "No, the furniture is ordered but not here." or "We don't exactly know yet." Finally - Leah's furniture was delivered on Wednesday!!! The weather has been so oppressively hot that she can't sleep in her room yet, but at least she can start to spend a little time in there to get used to it. Here are the highlights:

Hi All! We're trying to include the best photos here & stories here, but as you can imaginethis child could be described as "overphotographed"....so picking the highlights can be a challenge. Leah visited her friend Anna last night. We are still trying to get a photo of them together, but it goes without saying that it is hard to get a 3 week old & a 6 week old awake & happy at the same time! FYI - I realized that the blog settings had been preventing most of you from commenting. We have remedied that situation, and look forward to comments from all of you!

Leah says: "I'll nap if you pay me 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!" (For those who don't get the reference, please see "Austin Powers International Man of Mystery" for context).

Many of you have asked how the dogs are taking to Leah. The answer is "wonderfully". We call Buffett "the Bufflesitter", because he is always keeping a nurturing eye on Leah. He is quick to get our attention when she becomes upset (as if the crying baby hadn't already gotten our attention!). Jack is also doing well, though he is a lot more playful with Leah than Buffett is. Jack would very much like to use the bouncy seat and the playtime mat for himself. They are just his size, so we have been saying a lot of "No Jack" in regards to sharing Leah's things.

Here are Leah & Daddy as he introduces her to her first NFL game. It may only be preseason, and the Panthers weren't playing, but Daddy believes in starting them young. He was most pleased that Leah cried when the Dallas Cowboys were on the screen!
